White County Comprehensive Plan Group

In response to input from the public and members of the Plan Commission, a new draft of the Comprehensive Plan has been developed and is available on the home page for download.

In particular, the new version:

• Provides a clearer and more consistent policy framework;

• More directly emphasizes agriculture, rural character, and farmland stewardship;

• Clarifies how future growth should be evaluated;

• Separates broad goals from more detailed objectives and policies;

• Strengthens the future land use and growth strategy discussion;

• Provides clearer guidance on how the maps should be used;

• Expands the implementation chapter so that responsibilities, priorities, funding, partnerships, public engagement, and plan maintenance are easier to understand; and

• Uses simpler, more direct language throughout the document.

Because this draft represents a substantial rewrite, we anticipate holding a second public hearing; the hearing date is still under consideration, so please check back here to see the latest developments.
